Shengwang Liu

Shengwang Liu is the professor and vice director of Harbin Veterinary Research Institute (HVRI), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He was promoted to Group Leader of the avian coronavirus group in 2000. His current research utilizes molecular virology to investigate the prevalence, tissue tropism, antigenicity and pathogenicity determinants of the avian coronavirus, especially infectious bronchitis virus and Pheasant coronavirus. Infectious bronchitis is the most economically important infectious disease affecting not only the production of meat-type birds but also the quality and production levels of eggs from layer and breeder birds in China and worldwide. Consequently, his research is also to develop rationally attenuated vaccines and detection methods for the better control of infectious bronchitis virus and other coronaviruses.
